About David Pollock
David Pollock was born in London in 1949. He now lives in Charlbury, Oxfordshire with his wife Sally.
David has drawn and painted for as long as he can remember. His first degree subjects, at Keele University in the early 1970s, were chemistry and economics
His interest in architecture led him to a Postgraduate Certificate in Architectural History at Rewley House, Oxford in 2013.
He has carried out commissions for Asia House and through them for an event at the British Museum; for Dulwich College and for a number of private clients. These have ranged from illustrations to murals.
His work appears in the collection of Wolfson College,Oxford and several private collections
For most of a life spent working in Whitehall, newspapers and the construction industry, David's creative activities have been limited to holiday sketching and photography.
Result: Copious photographs and some 30 sketchbooks containing an ink and watercolour record of more than three decades of travelling, especially in South and South East Asia.
David retired from his last post, as chief executive of a major trade association, in 2010.
Further journeying in India, Burma, Thailand, Laos and Indonesia followed.
In 2015 David resolved to use his sketches and photographs as source material for a series of full-scale watercolour and mixed-media studio paintings. Since then, he has continued to travel in Africa, Asia and South America and to make new work.
His pictures depict a wide range of individuals and places. While they are essentially topographical, David sees them as an exercise in combining rigorous observational drawing with strongly and freely applied watercolour and body colour.
He seeks to combine wet-in-wet techniques and the free-running qualities of the medium with careful delineation of form.
